The Art Box is a creative afterschool program in Seattle for school-age children, hosted at the warm and welcoming Barakah Beauty Collective. During these 2-hour sessions, children lead their own artistic journey through skills like painting, clay, and fiber arts while receiving the gentle support they need to let their imaginations grow. My name is Fatema and I am a community organizer and artist living and working in Seattle. I am passionate about arts education and creative skills -- I believe that inside all of humanity is the drive to create, and I strive to help my fellow humans on their creative journeys! With The Art Box, I hope to realize this vision, while working with families and children in my community.

I have been a practicing artist for as long as I can remember, and particularly enjoy fiber arts, soft pastel, and acrylic painting. To see some of my work, check out my portfolio! In my undergraduate degree, I completed a minor in Fine Arts, and have also pursued an MFA at the University of Seattle. I am CPR and First Aid certified, and hold an Advanced Childcare certification from the American Red Cross. You can access my certifications online here. 

Let your child's creativity blossom!

The Art Box is a place where your child can feel at home and have fun. I am so happy to host these sessions at Barakah Beauty Collective. It is a safe, warm, and welcoming space for our community. In these sessions, I let the children lead the way. I ask them, "What do you want to make today?" and "What would you like to learn?​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

I am there to help them every step of the way as they try:

  • Painting with watercolors and acrylics.

  • Working with clay to make shapes and figures.

  • Fabric arts, like sewing and working with soft materials.

How it works:

  • Time: We spend 2 hours together after school so your child has plenty of time to focus and enjoy.

  • Child-Led: Your child chooses what they want to work on.

  • Price: $60 per session. This includes all the supplies and materials—your child just needs to bring their imagination!
